It's Monday. I looked at my calendar this morning, while eating my leftover BBQ...imported from Dallas, I might add...and realized that I should be in week 9 of training for the Dumbo Double Dare/Disneyland Half Marathon. Seriously?!? Where did the time go?
I start out with the best of intentions. I do. Really. Like so many of us. I was so excited that it was time to ramp up training again, and I was on the wagon for all of a week. Somehow, life has gotten in the way. Sucky.
I looked at the calenndar because I also knew that this begins week 1 for the Goofy Challenge training. I did it. I finally went fully crazy and signed up for my first full marathon. The Walt Disney World Marathon. I know you're surprised, but frankly, if I'm going to do one, it might as well be one that's a know quantity for me. I know they'll have supplies...they won't run out of cups at a water stop. I know that there will be a crap ton of people in the same boat as me, their FIRST marathon, self doubt, all that jazz. I don't want to admit this to myself, but I also know that IF something happens to me, and I die somewhere along the way, that there is good race course support, and I can hitch a ride to the finish.
I'm also being very ambitious in my training. I'm doing the program that's designed for the Goofy's Race and a Half Challenge. If I like how things are going, I'll upgrade my entry. If not, then I've got plenty of running under my belt. Either way, I win, right?
It will definately be time to hit the gym tomorrow. Best of intentions, I swear.
